7 tips for staying mentally healthy and shining in covid19

1. Remember it’s actually OK not to be Ok.

We all respond to challenging times in our own way but something that fear, anxiety and depression thrives on is the “resistance to telling the the truth of how you are REALLY feeling”. The more you stuff down big emotions and deny the truth of what’s going on, the more things start to bubble up until they explode. Start by staying “even though I have this uncomfortable feeling – I accept myself and how I feel and I’m open to not always going to feel this way. Then the body and mind feel heard and start to feel some relief that you are choosing to look at the problem.

2. Take off the Mask (and I don’t mean the COVID-19 mask, I mean the invisible mask you wear).

In a world where everyone wears a mask. It’s a privilege to see a soul. I realise that masks give off the illusion that we are kept safe – we tell ourselves, they keep us safe from rejection, failure and abandonment. They can also keep us safe from judgment and criticism. But a mask also can make you feel small, trapped, lonely, fearful and worse still, inauthentic. It takes courage to be and own all that you are without apology. When you commit to taking off the mask you wear you will start to see and know you are enough as you are. When you remove the mask your mental wellbeing will improve and you will meet yourself in your truth and authenticity – the emotional freedom you will feel is MAGIC

3. Get plenty of sunlight, eat well, sleep and move your body.

I know you’ve heard it all before but eating nutritious meals, drinking plenty of water, getting plenty of sleep and exercising will all contribute greatly to improving your mental health. Whenever you can, get outside and move because being in the sunlight increases your brains serotonin levels which boosts your mood and helps you feel calm and focused.

4. Use EFT Tapping (Emotional Freedom Techniques) to manage stress.

5. Ask for help

One of the most important ways to keep mentally healthy is to recognise when you’re not feeling good and know when to ask for help. Everyone goes through tough times and there’s no shame in asking someone like a therapist or counsellor for help. Remember you are stronger than you think. It may be stormy now but it can’t rain forever and while you are in the eye of the storm, it’s helpful to talk to someone who can support you.

6. Build relationships with good people but especially nurture the relationship you have with yourself.

Having good relationships with other people is such an important factor in contributing to a sense of wellbeing but the relationship you have with yourself sets the tone for every other relationship you have. When you honour your own needs, you can begin to heal your wounds and move towards self-growth, expansion and a healthy mind.

7. Always remember: Better days are on the way.

Every situation in life is temporary. So, when life is good, make sure you enjoy and receive it fully. And when life is not so good, remember that it will not last forever and better days are on the way.
